You can buy a ticket for someone else using any of the options below:
1. Mobile Ticket (recommended)
The person travelling will need to download the Trainline app.
When booking, select Mobile Ticket and enter their name, not yours.
After booking, forward them the confirmation email.
They can tap “Download your mobile ticket” in the email and it will appear in their app.
Tip: Make sure they log in with the same email address that received the confirmation.
2. eTicket
Book as normal and choose the eTicket option.
Forward the confirmation email to the traveller.
They can either open the eTicket attachment on their phone or print it to travel.
3. By Post
When booking, enter the delivery address of the traveller, not your own.
The billing address can be different — that’s fine!
4. Self-Service Ticket Machine
Choose the Collect from Station option during booking.
The traveller can collect their ticket from any of 1,700+ ticket machines across the UK.
They’ll need the collection reference number (from the confirmation email) and a debit or credit card.
Good to know:
Some bookings let you collect tickets with any debit/credit card, not just the one used for payment — check this on the delivery options screen.
If you paid with PayPal or Apple Pay, tickets can always be collected with any card.
