You can buy and store certain Railcards directly in your Trainline app. Here’s how it works.
Types of Digital Railcards available on Trainline
You can currently buy and use these Railcards in digital form:
Age-based Railcards
Perfect for students, young professionals, and seniors:
16–17 Saver
16–25 Railcard
26–30 Railcard
Senior Railcard (60+)
Group Railcards
Great for couples, friends, or families. You don’t need to be related or in a relationship.
Ideal for anyone aged 31–59 who doesn’t qualify for an age-based Railcard:

Network Railcard: gives 1/3 off travel within the South East (16 counties including London).
Note: The Disabled Persons Railcard and Veterans Railcard aren’t yet available to buy digitally on Trainline.
If you already have one, you can still use it to buy discounted tickets through Trainline.

Buying and managing your Railcard

Viewing your Digital Railcard in the app
Where to find your Railcard
Log in to the Trainline app with the same email address used to buy the Railcard.
Go to the Account tab → Your Railcards.
Tap Download Railcard to add it to your device.
Can one Railcard be shown on multiple devices?
Yes — as long as you’re logged in with the same email address on each device.
For Two Together or Family & Friends Railcards:
The Railcard is still linked to the purchasing email address only.
It can’t be shared between separate Trainline accounts.
Buying a Railcard for someone else
The photo on the Railcard must be of the person travelling.
The Railcard will only appear in the Trainline app when logged in with the email used to buy it.
If you need to move the Railcard to another email address, please contact us.
Using your Digital Railcard
Can I buy a Railcard and apply the discount in the same booking?
Not just yet — we’re working on it!
For now, buy your Railcard first, then make a separate booking for your train tickets.
When searching, manually add your Railcard to apply the discount.
Can I apply more than one Railcard to a booking?
Yes — up to the same number of passengers in the booking.
Some Railcards (like Family & Friends) also cover multiple people, so you may only need one.
How to apply a Railcard discount
Enter your travel details (origin, destination, date, and time).
Add your passengers and their Railcards.
Select ‘Get times & tickets’ — the discount will be applied automatically if valid.
If your discount wasn’t applied
Discounts might not appear if:
The Railcard doesn’t apply to your route (e.g. Network Railcard only covers the South East).
You’re travelling during Peak times and your Railcard is only valid Off-Peak.
The ticket type isn’t eligible for discounts (e.g. Advance fares for some Railcards).
You’re booking a European journey, including Eurostar.
Check the full list of excluded ticket types here.
Can I apply a Railcard discount after booking?
No. Discounts can’t be applied retrospectively, so double-check your Railcard has been added before you pay.
