General information
For etickets in mainland Europe or on Eurostar, the traveller’s name must be entered when booking.
Most carriers only allow the person named on the ticket to travel.
If you’ve made a minor spelling mistake, don’t worry. Bring your ID and explain it to the ticket inspector — if it’s clear you’re the intended traveller, it’s usually fine.
If your passport or ID is in your maiden name but your ticket is in your married name, simply bring your marriage certificate when you travel. No need to update your booking.

Tickets for national trains, Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca, Intercity day/night, and Eurocity Italy–Switzerland (domestic route) are nominative.
You must show a valid ID matching the ticket at check-in.
Free name changes are allowed (any number of times, up to departure) on those same trains. You can do this:
In your Trainline account (“Manage my booking” → “Edit passenger details”)
From your confirmation email (“Manage my booking”)
At Trenitalia ticket offices
On the Trenitalia website
Name changes aren’t allowed for regional train tickets. A new ticket must be purchased if another person is travelling.
If the ticket includes a CartaFRECCIA, only the cardholder can use it.
Special cases:
Multiple national trains: Name change possible for all trains until the first train departs.
Same-day return offers: Name change possible until the outbound train departs.
National + Regional combinations: Name change not possible.
WESTbahn
Tickets don’t display a passenger name, so no name change is needed.
If someone else wants to travel instead, they’ll need to book a new ticket.
If you’re buying a ticket for someone else, see our How do I buy a ticket for someone else? help page.
